River Day
30 Aug 2010 @ 08:42 am
First things first, we wanna thanks all of you folks that came out to the shows last week. They were some of the most fun in a while. Special thanks to Uncle Eddie for playing some banjo with us on Saturday. And to Cory and Josh at Glades Pike Winery for your incredible hospitality and event.
So it looks like we've got a little break in the action right now. River Day is coming up and that is going to take all of our focus for now. We'll be back singin' songs for y'all soon enough though. Stick around.
Wheeling and Somerset
23 Aug 2010 @ 11:46 am
Hi all. Well we are officially back into the swing of things. Thanks to all those folks that came out last week and watched us play through fingers that hurt more than they have in a long time. Vacation messed us up. But now we're back in shape and continuing the rock this week.
We'll be traveling up to Wheeling, WV on Friday for a very special night at Down On Main Street. Looking forward to see all you freaks again. Then on Saturday we'll be rocking the gazebo at Glades Pike Winery. We've been looking forward to this one all summer long. It's gonna be fun. see ya there!
Break's Over. Time To Rock.
18 Aug 2010 @ 8:24 pm
Well, we feel refreshed after the nice long break and are ready to commence rocking your faces off. I'm sure Herb wouldn't mind still being in Hawaii. And Hanson probably wouldn't fight having to remain in the wilderness for a few more days. But I suppose all vacations must come to an end.
We'll be performing for your listening pleasure this week at Ragtime in Arlington, VA on Thursday night. And then OUDY's gettin' together for an all night humdinger at Tiffany Tavern on Friday night. We look forward to catching up with you all. Did Herb take surfing lessons and mangle his fragile frame and dignity? Did Hanson get into an all out fist fight with the bears of the high peaks? Ask us all about it this week at the shows.
That's a Fresher. I'm Going On Break.
01 Aug 2010 @ 11:39 pm
Hi folks. So, this summer has been a blur of music and fun so far. We've seen so much of the east coast and had a blast the whole way. Now we're gonna take a short break and focus on our individual personal relationships for a couple weeks. Herb will be traveling to Hawaii with some family members and try to learn how to surf. Hanson will be spending some much needed time in the woods of the Adirondacks with his special lady friend. I hope you don't miss us too much.
In the mean time, I'll try to load some new videos on the site and keep the blog updates going so you guys can keep in touch with the ever important thoughts and aspects of our lives. Come back soon! And we'll be back on the road in late August.
PS- Happy Birthday Jerry. You rock!

Ted Karanikolas May 15, 1943 - February 15, 2010
16 Feb 2010 @ 6:16 pm
Ted has been the proprieter of Tiffany Tavern since 1981. Tiffany Tavern has been the DC's bluegrass focal point for just as long. Ask any picker who's been through the DC area where to catch some bluegrass when in town and they will most likely point you towards Ted's Tiffany Tavern in Old Town Alexandria.
When I first began studying bluegrass music, Tiff's was the first place I frequented to learn how to pick. Ted gave Hanson and me one of our first regular playing gigs - running the open mic one night a week. We met a banjo player there and soon teamed up with an upright bass to form our very own bluegrass band: Over Under Down Yonder. After much pestering, Ted finally gave OUDY a trial slot much coveted by local bluegrass bands and we were lucky enough to be invited back.
Ted personally gave me so very much in support of my musical endeavors. From a place to learn (for free, I might add) to a place to network with other musicians to the chance he gave us to finally share that which we had learned with others, it all started with Ted.
Ted passed away yesterday and I will miss him.
Thank you for everything Ted, and I promise that I will never play music next door.
Do You Have The Fever?
12 Feb 2010 @ 10:27 am
I'm talking about cabin fever. The whole region has been in their houses for the last week because of 30+ inches of snow surrounding us. Well this weekend it's time to get back to normalcy. And that means rocking out.
We'll be playing tonight (Friday) at The Blue Moon in Shepherdstown, WV at 9. then it's on to Jennerstown, PA tomorrow (Sat.) at The Rockin' R. And Monday, oh Monday, we'll be up in Slippery Rock, PA dealing with more snow and playing those sweet, sweet jams that you know and love.
See y'all out there in the world.
Hopefully....
10 Feb 2010 @ 10:26 am
...there will be music this weekend. The current blizzard should stop sometime today and we will be rockin' in shepTown by Friday evening. Blue Moon Cafe on Friday night is gonna be incredible. Then we travel up to Jennerstown, PA on Saturday for some Central/Western/Southern Pennsylvania rock at The Rockin' R. On Sunday we might play frisbee golf or something. Then Monday returns us to Slippery Rock, PA and The North Country Brewery.
Can't wait to get back to playing after all this time off because of 30+ inches of snow everywhere.
Too Much Snow
06 Feb 2010 @ 1:40 pm
Well folks, tonights show at Tiffany Tavern isn't gonna happen. There is around 2 feet of snow on the ground and it's still coming on strong. Tiffany's isn't even gonna open today. So don't even try to go there. Instead, enjoy being forced to slow down and enjoy the silence and company of your friends and family. Have a great weekend folks. We'll keep ya posted on the rescheduling at Tiff's.
OUDY This Weekend, Dante's Rescheduled
03 Feb 2010 @ 9:05 pm
Hi folks. So Over Under Down Yonder is playing this weekend. We hope. There is supposed to be another big snowstorm in the NoVa area on Friday/Saturday. Please check here before you head out there to make sure everything is still a go.
The show at Dante's that was unfortunately canceled last weekend because of snow has been rescheduled for February 25th. The Fox Hunt is coming as well. It's gonna be the good time that we all missed out on last week.
Emergency Update News!!!!!!
30 Jan 2010 @ 4:59 pm
We are unfortunately going to have to cancel the show tonight in Frostburg, MD at Dante's because of this snow storm traveling through. We are very sorry for those who were planning on coming out. I'm pretty sure The Fox Hunt isn't making it there either. But don't get too sad. We will be back at Dante's before you know it. April 16th to be exact.
Update News
25 Jan 2010 @ 12:18 am
So we had another successful weekend of recording in West Virginia. We want to quickly thank all the guest musicians who have more or less donated their talent and time to our little project. Things are sounding incredible and we are pretty excited about it.
This week we return to performing for people instead of microphones. We'll be out in Arlington, VA at Ragtime on Thursday. Then Friday we romp into Fairfax, VA at Brion's Grill. We're trying to talk our cello playing friend to join us. We'll see. And finally, this Saturday we'll be teaming up with The Fox Hunt, a super fun band out of West Virginia. That show is in Frostburg, MD. At Dante's. Awesome.
Stu-stu-studio...
19 Jan 2010 @ 8:39 pm
That's right Phil Collins. We're headed back into the studio this week to continue working on the new record. We'll keep you updated if anything awesome happens.
Thank you much to all those folks who came out last week in WV and PA. We had a great time and really enjoyed seeing all you folks out there in coal country. We return to the road next week in Northern Virginia and a very special show with The Fox Hunt in Frostburg. Stay tuned...
Morgantown? Really?
12 Jan 2010 @ 10:27 am
That's right folks! We will be making our triumphant return to Morgantown, WV this week in an attempt to wriggle our way back into the sweet acoustic music scene that that town has to offer. It's been too long since we've performed there. Years. So this Thursday come on out to The Beanery and share in the music.
Then on Saturday night we'll be at our old haunt of Dively's in Johnstown, PA. We've had some legendary nights there. And this one is shaping up to be the best yet!
Rock!
From Solly's to the studio
04 Jan 2010 @ 10:22 pm
Thanks to everybody who came out to Tiffany Tavern for new year's eve. We are very glad to have been able to ring in the new decade with all of you folks! How about that Auld Lang Syne, eh? You'll probably have to wait another year to hear that one back in the rotation...
This week, we're returning to Solly's U Street Tavern in the DC on thursday. It's a great place to hear some real intimate music in the city. And when I say intimate, I mean close-talkin', neck breathin', truth or dare intimacy...Oh, yeah!
Afterwards, we'll be heading back into the studio to lay some tracks all the way down, downtown for the rest of the weekend.
Hope everyone had an incredible and safe new year's holiday celebration and that the first year of the new decade (or, the last year of the previous decade -- I don't really know which way it goes...) is full of prosperity, good fortune, and skittles. Be careful everybody, the year of the Tiger is upon us -- meow!
Love you guys.
Two Thousand and Ten
30 Dec 2009 @ 1:45 pm
Herb and Hanson will be once again celebrating the new year with their good friends and incredible musicians Rollin' Ralph and T-Peg. We like to call it Over Under Down Yonder. And we will be rocking out at Tiffany Tavern in Old Town Alexandria from 830 to 1230. So if you haven't figured out what you're doing yet for the celebration, come on down and join in the fun.
That's it 'Til New Years Eve
21 Dec 2009 @ 1:34 pm
So it snowed over 20 inches in lots of spots here in the east. That stuff will take a while to melt. I'm not gonna leave the house until New Years.
Have fun times with your family and friends over the holidays.
Stay safe.
And keep rockin'.
Big Week Ahead and Whiskey Fund on iTunes
14 Dec 2009 @ 02:28 am
Big things coming up this week. But first, let me thank all those involved with the Mustache Bash for being so kind to us. It was another great year. They raised over 27,000 dollars for childrens charities. Right on!
So, we are performing at another benefit this Tuesday in Washington DC. Follow the link on the gigs page for more info. Should be a real barn burner. Then we head over to Ragtime on Thursday. Then to Wheeling on Friday. I feel like we haven't been there in forever. And then we wrap it up with a performance at an all new venue that we've heard great things about: The Bicycle Cafe in Pittsburgh. Should be a real great week with a nice variety of venues and such. Hope to see you there.
In a quick other note, you can FINALLY download The Whiskey Fund off of iTunes and CD Baby. So please feel free to do so if ya want.
Upper Lip Warmth
07 Dec 2009 @ 1:07 pm

Thanksgiving and Pittsburgh
23 Nov 2009 @ 10:17 am
Thanksgiving is this week. So while everyone is all hopped up on turkey and stuffing, I'd like to take a moment to thank everyone out there that has supported us over the years. Everyone that has given us a floor or bed to lie down on. Everyone that has fed us or bought us a beer. And of course, all those out there that have come out to the shows and shared in the music and maybe even bought a cd or t-shirt. Thank you so much for all you kindness and support. And thank you for your friendship.
This Saturday we'll be heading to the north side of Pittsburgh to rock out at The Park House. It'll be our first time there and we are really looking forward to it. See ya then.

There's a great charity organization down in Wilmington, NC that has been very successful in benefiting various groups geared towards helping our nation's youth -- and they do so by growing mustaches.
Mustaches For Kids has once again asked us to play their infamous "'Stache Bash" -- a celebration after a month long journey of strenuous fund-raising and whiskers growing. I would like to direct everybody to their
WEBSITE .
Check it out. Donate. Participate. And then come on down and celebrate on December 11.

There is no news
04 Nov 2009 @ 08:33 am
So October's over and November is here. Already. And that means there is no news to report for the time being. We'll be taking it easy on live performances for a couple months and concentrating on other aspects of our careers. What are those you're wondering? Oh, there are other aspects. I promise. But they're secret. There will be a smattering of shows these two months though. So check out the calendar and we'll hopefully see ya then.
Halloween is here!
26 Oct 2009 @ 11:52 am
Oh man! My favorite holiday of the calendar year is almost upon us. Quite exciting stuff really. First off, thank you so much to all those who came out to Tiff's and Solly's this past weekend. Especially those that came to both. You guys must really like us for some reason. The shows were fun as always. And thanks to Lincoln Crockett for warming up the stage at Solly's. If anyone is in Portland anytime, be sure to check him out.
This week we'll be continuing our monthly residency at Ragtime in Arlington, VA on Thursday night. And then it's on to Shepherdstown, WV on Saturday to rock the Halloween party of all Halloween parties. Really looking forward to it.
