The Story of Herb & Hanson
The journey began in the Fall of 1995, when Herb and Hanson were individually invited to lend their talents to a newly formed
folk-rock band in the northern Virginia area. Liquid Caravan created a song list of eclectic covers mixed in with innovative
original compositions They performed at various night clubs and college campuses in the vicinity before disbanding due to many
members geographically re-locating.
Herb and Hanson remained in the area and decided to continue singing songs together despite the lack of a full band. As an
acoustic duo, they performed at many local open mics, constantly incorporating more and more songs into their expanding repertoire
of Americana music. Calling on influences ranging from Bob Dylan and the Grateful Dead, to Doc Watson, Townes Van Zandt and
John Hartford, the duo began their passion for songwriting, composing several songs that quickly became fan favorites.
Eventually, Herb and Hanson became an exclusive act performing all over the mid-Atlantic region. They have opened for such
national acts as David Gans, host of the nationally syndicated radio program The Grateful Dead hour, and the David
Nelson Band at the Recher Theatre outside of Baltimore; They have had long term runs as hosts of Open Mics in Fairfax and Alexandria;
The duo has been hired to play at many private parties, fundraisers, award ceremonies, weddings and other events across the country.
While hustling for gigs in Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland and Washington DC, Herb and Hanson managed to record an album of
predominately original songs at Flat Mountain Sound in Springfield, VA, and release a toe tappin’ live album from Brion’s Bar and
Grill in Fairfax that let their loyal fans take the energy from a live show home with them.
At the present time, Herb and Hanson are enjoying regular appearances in Arlington and Fairfax, as well as playing anytime anyone
will let them sing their songs on stage. They are also deep in the works on their second studio album that should be available
early in 2004.
