Things I’ve Seen and Heard

Every now and then I like to tell you guys about things I’ve read or watched or listened to. This is one of those times. Enjoy!

Movie- Beer Wars. I just watch this yesterday and thought it was pretty informative. It’s a documentary about the beer industry, focusing on big corporations versus the small independent brewers in the United States. The production was cheesy to the point of almost ruining the movie for me, but I really like beer and wanted to learn things about it. Not to ruin the movie for you, but it boils down to this: Bud, Miller and Coors are swill. Drink good beer. Drink beer that is created to taste good. It just makes sense really.

Books- I am embarrassed to admit to you guys that I really don’t have much to offer on this one right now. You know when people go on vacation and bring trashy books with them just to relax with and pass the time on the beach or something? Well, when I went on vacation recently I forgot to bring a book and bought one at a general store on the used book rack. The choices were slim. Lots of interesting looking steamy romance novels. Lots of politically motivated drivel. And mysteries. Lots and lots and lots of mysteries. So I got one. And I read half of it. And I’m not gonna finish it. I feel that finishing will somehow validate the author and encourage him to write more books that suck. But I just picked up a James Thurber book. Looking forward to it.

Music- I just learned about Karen Dalton. She’s awesome. Blues/folk singer from the early 60’s NYC scene. Plays a wicked 12-string and banjo. Recommended. Also been listening to The Palace Brothers. It’s really just Bonnie Prince Billy using yet another name. Check out There Is No-One What Will Take Care Of You. Sweetness. Besides that, I have ben listening to a lot of Dead recently because I went to an exhibit on them up in Manhattan the other week. It inspired me to revisit their collection of awesomeness.

That’s it for now. Looking over this post, I realize that’s it’s pretty light on content. Sorry about that.
